Moissanite Magic 1: Discover the Beauty and Value of Moissanite

In Silver Rain Silver, we specialize in crafting exquisite silver jewelry, designed to captivate and endure. We use 925 sterling silver as the foundation for each piece, meticulously hand setting moissanite stones to ensure superior quality and brilliance. Moissanite, renowned for its diamond-like sparkle and durability, is the perfect complement to our silver designs.

What’s Moissanite?

Moissanite is a naturally occurring mineral discovered in a meteor crater by Dr. Henri Moissan in 1893. While natural moissanite is incredibly rare, today, we use lab-created moissanite, which is crafted with precision to deliver an exceptional sparkle and clarity that rivals even diamonds.

How are moissanite diamonds made?

Creation of Silicon Carbide: Moissanite is composed of silicon carbide (SiC). Silicon carbide can be crystallized which is synthesized in a lab by combining silicon and carbon at high temperatures.

Cutting and Polishing: Once the moissanite crystals have formed, they are cut and polished to enhance their brilliance and clarity. The cutting process involves shaping the rough crystal into desired facets and polishing it to achieve a high-quality gemstone.

Why Choose Moissanite?

1. Durability: Moissanite is considered an excellent alternative to diamonds because of its striking similarity in appearance and impressive durability. With a hardness of 9.25 on the Mohs scale, moissanite is only slightly softer than diamonds, making it highly resistant to scratches and ideal for everyday wear.

2. Brilliance: One of the standout features of moissanite is its brilliance. Its refractive index is slightly higher than that of diamonds, which means moissanite reflects more light, creating a more intense sparkle. Additionally, its fire, or color dispersion, is more than twice that of diamonds (0.104 vs. 0.044), giving it a rainbow-like brilliance under light.

3. Sustainability: Because moissanite is lab-created rather than mined like diamonds, it is more ethical and environmentally friendly, making it a highly prized gemstone
